No Specific Test For Diagnosing Heartburn
6th January 2009 by Heart Burn No CommentsAs medically told by the physician there is no specific test for diagnosing heartburn. Diagnosis begins at the stage of serious illness due to burning sensation. At this point the doctor generally advises the affected person to go for some basic tests such as Upper endoscopy, pH test and Barium tests. The upper endoscopy test actually reveals the entire details of the patient’s stomach and intestine. This test allows the doctor to go through the conditions of the duodenum, stomach walls with a help of an instrument called endoscope. It is a thin flexible tube made of glass which is inserted to the stomach for diagnosis. The second diagnosis test is the pH test. This test is recommended for persons having the symptoms of GERD (gastrointestinal reflux disease). This test helps in identifying the stomach’s acidity condition. It gives a detail tracking of acid intrusion or back tracking of the contents of food into the esophagus tube again.

The last test recommended by the doctor is the Barium test. This test involves the use of X-rays for diagnosis. X-rays are passed into the abdominal cavity to detect the abnormalities present in the digestive tract. Once diagnosed it is important for the patients to keep a record of their daily activities, their diet and their medications. This will surely help in treating the heartburn in a more efficient manner. Normal chest pain may not be feared for heart burn, but one can diagnose it has heartburn when one has difficulty in swallowing accompanied with eminent chest pain.
