Heartburn is a Chronic Disease

Heartburn is a chronic disease that occurs when there is reflux of acid in our chest area. The main cause of this disease is intake of food that contains excess of acid. It is cause of gastric acid regurgitation. Another reason is hydrochloric acid comes back to the esophagus from stomach. At that time they get deposited there. Antacids are the best medicine for heartburn. They cure many stomach related problems such as indigestion, ulcer, heartburn, etc. it contains some special ingredients that eliminates excess of unwanted gas. Common antacids that are available in medical shops are pepto bismol, alka seltzer and gelusil.

They should be taken as per the doctor’s prescription. Overdose may lead to some side effects. And under dosage may not cure the disease. Side effects because of over dosage are constipation, color change in urine, etc. there are two types of treatment. One is histamine antagonist and the other one is proton pump inhibitor. Example of histamine antagonists are zactac and axid AR. Both are FDA
(Food and Drug Administration) approved. If any side effects occur because of the medicine prescribed by the doctor then they should be informed to the doctor immediately. Side effects include head ache, bleeding, unusual cold, increased heart beat, fever, etc. one can undergo home treatment also. If the home treatment does not work out well for more than 2 weeks then it must be taken to your family doctor. Symptoms before and after undergoing home treatment must be reported to the doctor.
